Spindrift Dance Collective are beginning a new project in Cornwall this Summer called Flock. This July August and September the Flock will be researching and piloting a new performance project in Wheal Martyn and Trereife House and asking: what does the outdoors mean to you? What makes a place so special is it worth conserving?

The Flock of dancers and writers would like to invite you join them for a short creative residency over the summer with pilot performances in September.

What is Flock?

The work begins with the 5 female founders of the RSPB. Female activists of their time who gathered women together and protested against the use of feathers and plumage for fashion.

Flock is a group of dancers, writers, conservation scientists, wildlife volunteers and historians who will explore the collective enterprise and the importance of a message. What would our message be for this place? What would our message be for now? What is important to us? What do we want to protect? What changes can we make for the better?

The Flock is ever-growing in numbers and we would like you to be part of the creative journey. Birds of a feather, sticking together to celebrate Cornwall. The work we make will be migrated to a new Flock in Plymouth for a second stage of the project, which will pilot the migration of a message and movement sharings. Suzie West and SpinDrift Dance Collective want to pilot the project this summer for a larger scale project in the future.

Who is it for and how much is it?

We are looking for dancers with a passion for the outdoors, a connection with nature / conservation and an interest in co -creating a Dance Theatre performance as the Cornish Flock.

You can be of any age and dance experience. You will need to be confident that your body can cope with outdoor performance work on uneven ground and that you will enjoy a short rehearsal time before the performances in September.

Email suzie west for more information on the schedule.
